Scams
They’re getting clever so It’s imperative that you pay attention to the signs when you receive a message from a potential scammer posing as a recruiter or any individual from a specific company. Here’s what to look for.
They want to hire you without an interview or viewing your resume.
Compensation is way too high for what is being advertised or shared.
The recruiter’s email address is a gmail account or any other account other than the company they are representing.
Pay attention to company logos, fonts, colors etc. Match it against the actual company website. In addition, as you view the company website, go to the careers page and see if they have any type of messaging regarding potential scams. I have seen this quite often lately. They are even impersonating real recruiters at organizations, so be vigilant.
Instructing you to partner with someone on their team to work on specific documents, i.e. Board-ready executive positioning documents for a potential board seat. These will always lead to an ask for money.
Advising they will need to run a background check or credit check due to the nature of the role, i.e. a finance role. In a legitimate situation, you will have gone through the vetting process, interview, and offer that has been accepted before anything like this is asked of you.
They advise that communication will need to happen on either Signal, Telegraph or WhatsApp. Legitimate recruiters with real roles will communicate via company or agency email.
They are in a hurry and you need to act fast. Scammers always promote a sense of urgency.
