Sleeping as a Strategy
Sleep. It’s essential to keep you moving forward whether it’s a job search, preparing for a promotion or leading a team thorough a large project. Sleeping is where the magic happens. And in order to kick in that magic, a routine needs to be established. Here’s what I mean by that.
Have a set time each evening when you go to bed. 2 hours prior to that time begin the wind down. This includes, shutting off devices such as your computer, phone or TV. Next it’s getting ready for bed, some shower in the morning, others choose to do so in the morning. Snag your pj’s and a book or play something quiet for meditation. Whatever will bring about a sense of calm and peace without the distraction and stimuli. Ensure the room is cool and add fans if you need to. Then allow yourself to settle. Breathing exercises are good here too. Great example, inhale and hold for 20 seconds then slowly exhale for 20. Repeat a couple of times and you will find your body relaxing. Then when you are ready to close your eyes, close the loop your brain may be trying to maintain. In your head go through everything you accomplished that day; those tasks you completed. You will soon find yourself in dreamland.
